Tyger is a magical short film from 2006 by Brazilian director Guilherme Marcondes. This ‘cityjungle’ animation is based on the William Blake poem ‘The Tyger’. What I like about it, besides the visuals, the rhythm (very much like a poem) and the intentionally visible puppeteers, is that it avoids the pure romantic dystopian vision of society by making the tiger not only dangerous, but also a creator of natural beauty along the way. Humans are animals, after all.

I have never known a woman who gets so little media attention in her own country, while thrilling the rest of the world. Pattie Maes is a Belgian tech expert, already living in the US for years. She is one of the leading researchers at the brilliant MIT Media lab. In Maes’ world, the computer is no longer a distinct object, but a source of intelligence that’s embedded in our environment.
At her newly founded Fluid Interfaces Group at MIT, Patti Maes and her student Pranav Mistry developed a real ‘Sixth Sense‘. It is a wearable device which enables you to interact between the real world and the world of data, in a very intuitive way. For example when you want to know the time, just draw a watch on your wrist and you’ll see the time appearing. Or in case you forgot your cell phone, just aim the device at your handpalm and you’ll be able to form a number on your hand and do that call. The audience obviously went wild while watching her TED talk.
dEUS schopt keet koppen de kranten. Wij koppen: een paar paffende hanen in een hoenderhok vol op eieren trippelende kippen is precies wat we nodig hadden op de MIA’s! Wat een conformistisch gejeremieer zeg. dEUS is helemaal niet jaloers op Milows’ succes. dEUS is gewoon dieptreurig dat het zo pover is gesteld met de smaak van de gemiddelde Vlaamse muziekconsument, en nam om het zeepfeest te doorstaan dan maar de nicotine tot zich (zorgt voor mooie effecten trouwens). Met een fuck you naar Milows’ 5-2 er bovenop (voetbaltaal versus voetbaltaal). Arrogant? Inderdaad, goddeloos arrogant, uiteraard. Maar je zou van minder hitsig worden als muziek het belangrijkste is in je leven. Van ons hadden ze minstens een doos puntige cd hoesjes naar zeepsmoelkoning Peter Van de Veire en mellow Milow mogen keilen. En een doos of zevendertig van hetzelfde naar de grijpgrage muziekindustrie (en er nog een paar extra extra puntige bovenop voor Tom Helsen). Dat zou pas leuk geweest zijn. Dat was pas een échte rel geweest. Volgende keer beter, dEUS.
